An ASEAN anniversary emblem enters the familiar Osmena fifty-piso design, placing regional cooperation beside established national imagery.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Sergio Osmena's red portrait remains the main figure near the centre-left, accompanied on the right by Fuente Osmena, a ceremonial mace and a gavel. In the pale left field, a blue and red overprint carries the ASEAN emblem, the dates 1967-2012 and the motto one vision, one identity, one community. The added device is compact enough to preserve the balance of the underlying note while giving it an immediate commemorative identity.

Reverse

The National Museum building extends across the reverse in red engraving, its colonnaded facade, broad steps and central pediment framed by restrained security patterns. No commemorative overprint appears on this side, so the architecture retains the same spacious presentation as on the regular issue. The unchanged reverse makes the ASEAN emblem on the front the decisive visual marker.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-211A gains much of its meaning when placed beside the regular P-193 design from which it was adapted. The portraits, institutional objects and National Museum remain familiar, while a single overprint shifts the note toward the Philippines' role as a founding ASEAN member. It is therefore an effective bridge between a national type set and a wider regional collection devoted to ASEAN anniversaries and cross-border institutions.
