Design & Symbolism
Obverse
King Charles III faces forward in a finely shaded portrait, set against a pale blue field with the denomination at the corners. A transparent shield-shaped window opens the left side. The four Currency Commissioners' signatures sit below the issuing authority.
Reverse
Jonathan's domed shell and extended neck fill the principal vignette, the tortoise facing the viewer across a low patch of ground. A Saint Helena ebony flower appears to the left, with the clear shield-shaped window at the opposite edge.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this five-pound note belongs to the 2026 change from Elizabeth II paper notes to a Charles III polymer series. The new five, ten and twenty pounds share Jonathan and the ebony flower while retaining their established denomination colours. The portrait change therefore accompanies a wider redesign across all three values.
