Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse is anchored by Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac, his portrait set beside a violin, keyboard forms and music scores from the Mokranjac Legacy. The vertical thread, pale watermark field and National Bank seal give the design a disciplined structure, while the musical elements soften it into cultural biography. The composition presents the composer through the tools and written traces of his art, not through portraiture alone.

Reverse

The reverse turns vertically toward a standing figure of Mokranjac, framed by the Republic of Serbia coat of arms, musical notation and linear ornament from the Miroslav Gospel illumination tradition. The note moves between sound and manuscript, allowing music to meet one of Serbia’s deepest visual-textual traditions. This side gives the denomination a cultural register shaped by performance, sacred book art and national remembrance.

For collectors, this 2014 variety is the later signature stage of the second coat-of-arms 50 dinara, distinguished by the Jorgovanka Tabaković signature and the AA-AL, BA prefix range. It follows the earlier 2011 Šoškić variety while retaining the same Mokranjac music theme and detailed heraldic reverse type. The demetalized ДИНАР / DINAR thread and Mokranjac watermark are the main technical identifiers for the issue.
