Green and ochre lines draw a medieval lion into the foreground, then open toward a stork and the measured frontage of Colombo's Presidential Secretariat.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A lion sculpture from the rock fortress of Yapahuwa fills the right panel, rendered with the compact mass and ornamental curves of the original stone carving. Trilingual bank text crosses the centre above the latent image, while small value devices and the divided serial number keep the broad pale areas uncluttered. The composition gives an archaeological object the authority normally reserved for portraiture.
Reverse
The format turns vertically around a painted stork, the Presidential Secretariat and a cluster of flowers. Architecture occupies the middle distance rather than the entire field, leaving the bird to introduce height and movement above the building. Pale green guilloche and the watermark reserve soften the administrative character of the scene.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-108c records a brief 2004 interval when Sarath Leelananda Bandara Amunugama signed alongside Amarananda Somasiri Jayawardena. A governor change followed within the same year, so this variety captures a narrow administrative moment inside an otherwise stable design. It rewards attention to the signature line rather than to a conspicuous visual revision.
