ThemeCultural Heritage

Dark green engraving gives the Yapahuwa lion a monumental presence, even as the banknote's narrow scale keeps the encounter intimate and precise.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A medieval lion sculpture from Yapahuwa occupies the right, facing a pale field of trilingual text, serial numbers and signatures. Brown underprint warms the green engraving around the animal, while a latent image is embedded near the lower centre. The open left margin and concentrated carving make the face feel less like a crowded security document and more like a small archaeological study.

Reverse

A painted stork rises above the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, with yellow-green flowers spread beneath the building. The vertical orientation changes the pace of the note and draws the eye from the bird downward through architecture to vegetation. Repeated value devices, fine linework and the watermark field frame the scene without overwhelming it.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-108f closes the six-stage regular signature sequence of the P-108 design with Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ajith Nivard Cabraal. The denomination was replaced by a coin in 2010, so this 2006 variety belongs near the end of Sri Lanka's circulating 10-rupee banknotes. It provides a natural endpoint for a set built around the long-lived Yapahuwa lion type.
