Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Laxapana waterfall drops through a wooded setting on the left, while the Norochcholai coal power plant introduces long industrial forms across the middle. An Autumn Leaf butterfly and Sri Lanka Orange-billed Babbler occupy the lower-left and right edges. Their placement makes biodiversity part of the main narrative rather than an ornamental afterthought.

Reverse

The vertical reverse centres on a Bharatanatyam dancer accompanied by a Mridangam drummer. A Naga guard stone rises above a double liya vela floral design, with the outline of Sri Lanka woven into the background. Precise figure work and carved symbolism answer the face's expansive account of water and electrical generation.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 4 July 2022 edition replaces the preceding year's signatories with Ranil Wickremesinghe and P. Nandalal Weerasinghe. This change aligns the note with the broader 2022 signature group across the contemporary series. It offers a clearly dated step in P-125 collecting while preserving the waterfall-and-power-station artwork.
