Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Laxapana waterfall supplies the face with a vertical rush of water, set against the lower horizontal profile of the Norochcholai coal power plant. The Autumn Leaf butterfly at left and Sri Lanka Orange-billed Babbler at right punctuate the scene with compact natural forms. Fine orange linework draws the different scales into one continuous landscape.

Reverse

Bharatanatyam dance and Mridangam music shape the reverse when the note is turned vertically. A Naga guard stone, Dvithva liya vela ornament and a quiet map of Sri Lanka surround the performers without crowding their gestures. The change of orientation makes the cultural scene feel deliberately separate from the industrial panorama.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-125 dated 18 November 2024 introduces Anura Kumara Dissanayake alongside P. Nandalal Weerasinghe. It carries the same mature design into a new political and monetary signature pairing. That continuity makes it useful as the later endpoint of a denomination set organised by date and signatory rather than by changing imagery.
