Colombo's skyline, the Central Bank and its lighthouse clock tower frame a blue-purple tribute to seventy-five years of monetary history.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka headquarters stands with the Colombo Lighthouse Clock Tower against a stylised silhouette of the city's newer skyline. The 75th anniversary emblem sits within the blue, purple and green design, while a broad colour-shifting thread crosses the architectural field. Raised edge bars provide a tactile cue without disturbing the long horizontal view.

Reverse

The reverse turns vertically around a stylised map of Sri Lanka and a water lily, accompanied by the bank's anniversary emblem and vision statement. Open areas and sweeping curves replace the dense city structures of the face. A lion holding a sword completes the design as both a national symbol and a registration device shared across the two sides.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-131 returns the 2,000-rupee denomination in a circulated commemorative issue marking the Central Bank of Sri Lanka's 75th anniversary. Released on 29 August 2025, it revived a project first considered for the bank's 70th anniversary but postponed during the financial crisis. The planned issue of 50 million notes gives it a defined place between an anniversary object and everyday currency.
