Blue engraving lifts a Kandyan dancer above the paper, while butterflies and ancient stupas carry the reverse toward Anuradhapura.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A Kandyan dancer in an elaborate headdress turns slightly across the face, the beaded costume and ceremonial ornaments picked out in blue and violet lines. Trilingual lettering occupies the open centre, where the date and signatures sit above a concealed denomination. The figure gives the note a sense of performance without requiring a crowded stage or supporting cast.

Reverse

Butterflies move through a vertical view of the Jetavana and Thuparama stupas at Anuradhapura. A shield and ornamental sword deepen the connection to historic material culture, while the pale green ground separates each motif clearly. The reverse moves from living performance to enduring sacred architecture, allowing two forms of Sri Lankan heritage to share the denomination.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-110f is the last regular signature variety of this 50-rupee design, dated 3 July 2006 and signed by Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ajith Nivard Cabraal. Its place at the close of the series makes it a natural endpoint for a chronological run of the Kandyan dancer type. The note also preserves the older vertical-reverse format just before Sri Lanka moved toward a wholly new visual family.
