ThemeCultural Heritage

Bosra’s ancient theatre and western gate face Damascus civic architecture across this red and tan composition.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Bab al-Hawa, the western basalt gate of Bosra, appears beside the ancient Roman theatre on the red and tan face. Arabic lettering and the 2021 date sit between the architectural elements, balanced by a concave sixteen-sided registration device. The watermark field carries the Arabian horse head and electrotype 100 used throughout this denomination's modern format.

Reverse

The reverse brings together the Dome of the Treasury at the Umayyad Mosque and the Central Bank of Syria headquarters on Sabaa Bahrat Square. English bank text, an ancient coin and a fan-shaped ornament occupy the remaining space. The arrangement matches the 2019 Goznak issue, making date and signatures the reliable points of identification.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 2021 note is identified by the Kenan Yaghi–Hazem Younes Karfoul signature pair. Fractional serial numbering, Goznak production and the reverse fan ornament continue from the 2019 issue, so date and signatories carry most of the variety distinction. Together, the two notes form a compact signature study.
