Wheat ears and a small bird identify the brown and blue 500-pound note, the highest value of Syria's redenominated series.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The face is organized around ripe wheat ears and a small bird, rendered in brown, yellow, blue and grey. Arabic text, the 2025 date and the eagle-and-stars emblem occupy the surrounding fields, supported by Arabesque pattern and the concave registration device used throughout the issue. The watermark combines the national emblem with electrotype 500, matching the highest printed value in the family.

Reverse

The reverse repeats the shared Damascus pairing of the Central Bank of Syria headquarters and the Dome of the Treasury at the Umayyad Mosque. Three stars curve over the buildings, while English bank text and the denomination define the lower and outer margins. At this larger value, the restrained architectural arrangement keeps the series coherent instead of introducing a separate high-denomination portrait or monument.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 500-pound note is the top denomination of the six-note second-pound series and represented 50,000 old pounds at the official conversion rate. It forms a natural endpoint for a reform set. The wheat motif closes the agricultural sequence after fruit, cotton and olives, replacing the political portraiture of the preceding currency.
