ThemePortraits & People

A brown commemorative inscription settles beneath Rama IX before the design turns toward Rama V's monument and Thailand's fiscal memory.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Rama IX appears in uniform against the familiar brown framework of the Series 12 ten-baht note. A horizontal Thai overprint at lower centre records the Ministry of Finance anniversary, adding a dated commemorative voice without disturbing the Royal Garuda, serials or the original portrait-led composition.

Reverse

The equestrian monument of Rama V at the Royal Dusit Palace remains unchanged from the regular issue beneath it. Horse and rider command the centre, framed by Thai lettering and the Royal Garuda. The retained reverse makes the commemorative purpose depend almost entirely on the added inscription on the face.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this is a commemorative conversion of an existing Series 12 note rather than a newly drawn design. The overprint marks the 120th anniversary of Thailand's Ministry of Finance. Issued on 10 April 1995 in a quantity of 90 million, it belongs equally to royal-portrait and institutional-anniversary collections.
