ThemePortraits & People

Blue portraiture carries Rama X toward Rama III and Rama IV, placing three reigns within a single continuous dynastic register.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Rama X, dressed in Royal Thai Air Force uniform, commands the right half amid blue guilloche and Thai inscriptions. The Royal Garuda, denomination thread and watermark are integrated around the portrait rather than isolated as separate devices. The cool palette gives the ceremonial likeness a firm, lucid presence.

Reverse

Rama III and Rama IV appear together as the next pair in Series 17's chronological survey of the Chakri kings. Their portraits create a direct continuation of the face rather than a landscape or event scene. Blue ornament and the Royal Garuda frame succession itself as the central visual subject.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the suffix identifies the first Series 17 fifty-baht stage, issued on 6 April 2018 with the Tantivorawong and Santiprabhob signatures. The original legal warning remains at lower right on the reverse. A revised-text variety entered circulation later in 2018, making that small inscription an important companion to the signatures.
