Transnistria 1 Rouble 2012, P-42b, UNC

Suvorov and the Kitskansky memorial return in the 2012 modification, now protected by a wider winged thread with demetallised PRB lettering.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A left-facing portrait of Alexander Suvorov anchors the brown, green and rose face. The large numeral 1 occupies the centre beneath the bank title, with the original 2007 design date along the lower edge and the 2012 modification inscription added nearby. A winged security thread with demetallised PRB lettering crosses the field beside the portrait watermark area.

Reverse

The Kitskansky Bridgehead Memorial Complex fills the reverse, its obelisk rising above a tree-lined landscape. Large corner numerals and the written denomination frame the scene, while the serial number appears at upper right. Pale ornamental bands preserve the open character of the small note, and the Suvorov portrait watermark with electrotype PRB remains visible away from the printed vignette.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-42b should not be mistaken for the otherwise similar 2007 P-42a. The later variety retains the original design date but adds the 2012 modification line and replaces the earlier windowed thread with a wider winged strip carrying demetallised PRB. Those security changes, rather than a new portrait or reverse subject, define the catalogue distinction and reward inspection beyond the printed date.
