Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Volodymyr the Great is set within a yellow-brown field articulated by blue ornament and the Ukrainian trident. The close portrait gives the denomination an immediate human centre, while the thread and watermark repeat the note’s value and ruler without turning the face into a catalogue of security devices.
Reverse
An illustrated reconstruction of old Kyiv extends across the back, enclosed by fortifications and punctuated by church roofs. The eagle, cross, mace, axe and sword around the city connect the architectural view with the political and martial world of the grand prince.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2014 Valeriia Gontareva signature closes the three-date group that began with Volodymyr Stelmakh in 2006 and continued with Serhii Arbuzov in 2011. The unchanged design makes the signature the essential checkpoint when completing the sequence.
