Ivan Franko and Lviv’s opera house return with a new inscription that places a familiar design in wartime national memory.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Ivan Franko’s portrait remains the focus of the green, blue and brown front, accompanied by the trident and colour-shifting geometric feature. The established design is preserved with its fine engraving and integrated thread, maintaining continuity with the regular 20-hryven family.
Reverse
The Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet and its winged roof figure fill the reverse, now joined by the Ukrainian words “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” The added inscription changes the historical register of the scene without displacing the architecture at its centre.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the decisive feature is the patriotic inscription added to the reverse in 2025. Although Franko, the opera house and the security layout follow the regular 2023 issue, Andriy Pyshnyy’s signature and the added wording define a separate commemorative release.
