Poet Juan Zorrilla de San Martín faces an airborne allegory from La Leyenda Patria in a green, purple and red composition.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Juan Zorrilla de San Martín appears beside laurels, an ink well, quill and scroll, motifs that connect the portrait directly to writing. A map of Uruguay contains a latent denomination, while raised marks and large figures support recognition of value. Green, purple and red tones preserve the literary focus amid the security patterning.
Reverse
A flying allegorical female figure from La Leyenda Patria crosses the reverse with an open, upward movement. Laurels and writing instruments repeat the literary vocabulary of the face, while Spanish text and value figures hold the image within a formal border. The result treats poetry as both portrait and imagined national narrative.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2018 date and Series H distinguish this issue from the 2015 Series G variety. It carries the Elizabeth Sonia Oria and Mario Bergara signatures. The stacked denomination watermark and the latent 20 within the map belong to this revised paper family, which preceded the polymer version.
