Introduced after the original 1994 denominations, the 200 Sum turns the lion-and-sun motif from Sher-Dor Madrasah into the dominant image of the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Green, blue and yellow geometric patterns surround the coat of arms of Uzbekistan and the large stylized denomination 200. Uzbek inscriptions cross the upper and central portions, with the serial number placed below and a pale watermark field at right. Interlaced rosettes, star-shaped motifs and layered guilloche bands give the front a richly woven appearance.
Reverse
A stylized lion and sun motif taken from the facade of Sher-Dor Madrasah at the Registan in Samarkand dominates the reverse. The animal is set against a dense field of blue, green and yellow tile-like geometry, with the denomination repeated at several positions. A pale watermark panel and ornamental cartouches balance the central emblem.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-80 is the first new denomination added to the second-sum series after the 1994 launch group. Introduced in spring 1997 and withdrawn in July 2019, it extends the Registan theme through a single architectural symbol rather than another full building view.
