Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Red, pink, yellow, green and blue elements combine around the main gate of the Bukhara Ark, shown at left-center. A camel registration device, caravan routes on a map of Uzbekistan, Honatlas textile patterns and the national coat of arms support the Great Silk Road theme. Color-shifting denomination ink and geometric security motifs complete the modern layout.
Reverse
The reverse combines the ruins of Varakhsha and the ancient caravan-route site of Poykend with archaeological objects, including a clay pot and a female figurine. A camel and textile-inspired patterns reinforce the Silk Road theme, while Uzbek inscriptions and denomination numerals occupy the outer fields. Angular color blocks organize the historical landscape and artifacts.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-87 opens the 2021–2022 Great Silk Road family at 2,000 Sum. Bukhara anchors the first design, with caravan-route mapping on the front and archaeological material on the reverse establishing the structure followed across the series.
