Pho Minh Tower rises above trees and low temple buildings, giving a modest green note the stillness of an old monastic landscape.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The national coat of arms sits near the upper left above a large 100, while the written denomination occupies a blue and orange oval at centre. Brown and green ornament spreads across the face in broad, curling forms, leaving the emblem and value easy to read. The absence of a portrait gives the typography and circular patterning unusual prominence.
Reverse
Pho Minh Tower at Nam Dinh stands among trees and lower buildings on the reverse. Its tapering brick silhouette rises clearly above the horizontal temple grounds, creating a calm architectural focal point in dark green engraving. The repeated 100 at the corners frames the historic monument without reducing the surrounding landscape to mere background.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-105a is the 1991-dated 100-dong issue introduced on 2 May 1992. Unlike the higher values of the same period, it relies on the national emblem rather than Ho Chi Minh's portrait. Its withdrawal in 1996 gives the type a relatively short place within the paper currency that bridged the reform decade and later high-denomination issues.
