Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Ho Chi Minh occupies the right half against a field of pale blue, green and pink lines. The national coat of arms, vertical serial and main value are distributed across the left, while transparent windows open at both ends of the composition. Radiating ornament behind the portrait gives the face movement without competing with its principal subjects.

Reverse

The reverse centres on Chua Cau in Hoi An, shown as a roofed bridge crossing the water amid trees and low buildings. Blue engraving distinguishes the tiled roof and supporting piers from the softer multicolour background. Wave-like scrollwork along the lower edge extends the river theme beyond the architectural vignette.
