Hanoi's flag tower rises from pale green engraving before the reverse opens across water, boats and a slender iron bridge.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Flag Tower of Hanoi stands left of centre, its stepped base and narrow shaft picked out against a light blue and red underprint. The national coat of arms balances the tower at right, while large value numerals and Vietnamese inscriptions fill the open edges. Pale colours and generous spacing give the face an unusually airy character for a reform-era note.
Reverse
A trestle bridge stretches across the river in a long horizontal line, with several boats lying at anchor below. Darker green engraving concentrates the eye on the latticework of the span and the clustered craft, while the denomination settles into the lower border. The reverse shifts from the face's civic monument to the everyday movement of people and goods across water.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-92 is tied directly to Vietnam's September 1985 currency reform, which replaced the preceding dong at a ratio of ten to one. The note was introduced on 14 September 1985 and withdrawn in 1987, giving the type a compact circulation window. It therefore belongs naturally in reform-currency collections as well as sets built around Hanoi landmarks and bridges.
