Steel pylons and a construction crane rise beyond Ho Chi Minh's portrait, giving the note the scale and forward drive of a major hydroelectric project.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Ho Chi Minh's portrait occupies the right side in brown engraving, while the national coat of arms and a red serial number balance the lighter field at left. Blue, green, yellow and purple ornament radiates through the centre around the written value. The broad frame and repeated corner numerals hold the many colours together without weakening the portrait.
Reverse
The reverse looks across the Tri An hydroelectric complex on the Dong Nai River, where a crane, electrical pylons and long power lines define the horizon. Industrial structures are spread across the full width rather than compressed into a single vignette. Fine blue and green linework gives the scene both distance and the ordered geometry of energy infrastructure.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-108 was the highest denomination in Vietnam's 1988-1991 paper group and entered circulation on 15 January 1993. It completed a sequence whose reverse subjects moved through agriculture, forestry, textiles and power generation. Withdrawn in December 2003, the note also closes the older portrait-led paper series immediately before the regular polymer denominations appeared.
