Violet engraving links an ancient water culvert in Aden with the layered tower houses, minaret and mountain skyline of Sana'a.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
An ancient water culvert in Aden forms the principal vignette, its masonry channel rendered in tightly controlled violet lines. Arabic bank text, the denomination and serial numbers surround the structure without interrupting its long horizontal profile. A pale watermark area offsets the darker architectural engraving and gives the face a broad, open rhythm.
Reverse
Traditional buildings of Sana'a rise across the reverse, joined by a mosque minaret and a distant mountain ridge. English inscriptions are set into the lighter centre while the cityscape develops along the lower half of the note. The restrained violet palette unifies the dense urban forms and keeps the skyline legible against the patterned background.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-28(2) is the later Alawi Saleh al-Salami-signed form of a design catalogued to 1993. It entered circulation in September 1999, several years after the Muhammad Ahmad al-Junaid varieties, yet retained the same Aden and Sana'a imagery. The signature therefore supplies the decisive chronological clue and gives the type a clear late-issue endpoint.
