ThemeLandscapes & Nature

Socotra's dragon blood trees lead into terraced highland fields and a Queen Arwa Mosque mihrab, pairing rare flora with cultivated landscape.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Dragon blood trees from Socotra spread their umbrella-shaped crowns across the lower centre in dark brown and maroon. Arabic inscriptions, red Western numerals and black Eastern Arabic numerals occupy the surrounding field, while Qamariya stained-glass ornament appears near the serial number. A latent mosque outline and the windowed holographic thread are worked into the open areas rather than treated as separate decorative panels.

Reverse

Agricultural terraces extend across the reverse in warm tan and orange, translating Yemen's cultivated hillsides into fine horizontal bands. At right, a decorated mihrab niche from Queen Arwa Mosque introduces a precise architectural detail beside the landscape. English bank text and the written denomination remain compact, allowing the terraces to define the breadth and direction of the composition.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-37 belongs to the new group of notes issued through the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden and carries the 1439 AH and 2018 date. This example is the Mohamed Mansour Zemam-signed variety, while another issued form bears Mohamed Awad Bin Humam's signature. With the artwork unchanged, the governor's signature is the essential attribution point within the type.
