Seiyun Palace and Bab al-Yaman turn the highest denomination in this group into a study of Yemen's mud-brick architecture and historic gateways.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Seiyun Palace, former residence of the Kathiri sultans in Hadramaut, commands the face in yellow and green. The massive mud-brick structure rises behind Arabic bank text and the large denomination, with its rows of windows carefully articulated in fine linework. A holographic thread and the open watermark field divide the broad format without diminishing the palace's imposing scale.

Reverse

Bab al-Yaman, the principal gate into old Sana'a, occupies the reverse with the city unfolding beyond it. Two white minarets of the Great Mosque appear to the left, setting the fortified gateway within its urban setting. English bank text and the written denomination run across the lower field, while green ornament supports the ochre architecture without flattening its depth.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-36c closes the three-date sequence of this 1,000-rial design after the 2009 and 2012 printings. It carries the 1438 AH and 2017 date with Mohamed Awad Bin Humam's signature, so the date rather than a new composition identifies the final regular variety. A chronological P-36 group therefore charts the life of one architectural design across eight years.
