A seated classical figure with grapes introduces the 20-rial note, while Aden Harbour opens the reverse to modern shipping and a traditional dhow.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A marble sculpture of a seated figure holding grapes, commonly identified as Dionysus, occupies the left side of the brown face. Arabic inscriptions, the denomination and the governor's signature remain clearly separated across the centre and right. Layered geometric patterns provide depth behind the sculpture without obscuring its carved contours or the bunches of grapes.

Reverse

Aden Harbour fills the reverse with modern cargo vessels and a traditional dhow, placing two eras of maritime trade in the same scene. The English bank title and denomination sit above and below the harbour view, framed by compact value devices. Brown engraving and fine wave-like patterning give the port a measured, documentary character.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-25 is the 1995 form of the 20-rial design with Aden Harbour on the reverse. The change from the Sana'a architecture used on related earlier notes was intended to broaden the geographical balance of the series. That makes the reverse more than a decorative variation: it places the southern port within the visual narrative of the unified state while preserving the familiar sculptural face.
