ThemeCultural Heritage

Zabid's historic architecture meets the green uplands of Hauf National Park on a 200-rial design shaped by heritage and landscape.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Historic Town of Zabid and its castle form the centre of the orange-brown face, surrounded by Arabic text and a large denomination device. Dark architectural lines stand out against a yellow and grey underprint, while a latent mosque outline is concealed within the design. Western and Eastern Arabic serial numerals provide contrasting points of colour across the otherwise restrained palette.

Reverse

Hauf National Park in Al-Mahrah fills the reverse with a steep, vegetated hillside, a markedly different environment from the built heritage shown on the face. A decorated mosque mihrab niche appears at right, linking the landscape to Yemen's architectural vocabulary. English bank text and the denomination occupy the lower field, supported by dark blue and black engraving over the pale background.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-38(2) identifies the Mohamed Mansour Zemam-signed form of the 2018 200-rial issue. The same dated design also exists with Mohamed Awad Bin Humam's signature as P-38(1), so attribution depends on the signatory rather than any change to Zabid or Hauf imagery. Together the two varieties provide a concise signature study within the Aden-issued series.
