The warm-toned Al-Saleh Mosque gives way to Al Mukalla's coastal waterway, bridges and mountain-backed urban shoreline.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Al-Saleh Mosque in Sana'a extends across the face, its domes and minarets set within tan, blue and red ornamental work. Arabic inscriptions and large denomination figures are distributed around the building, while the broad central space preserves the mosque's scale. A holographic security thread introduces a sharper vertical element among the finely engraved architectural forms.

Reverse

The reverse looks across Mukalla Khor in the port city of Al Mukalla, where buildings and bridges line the water beneath a mountain backdrop. The Indian Ocean closes the scene beyond the urban shoreline, giving the composition an unusual breadth. English bank text and the denomination frame the view without competing with the layered relationship between water, city and terrain.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-35 introduced both a new 250-rial denomination and a completely new design on 14 November 2009. It was also the first banknote recorded with Goznak's Visual Formed Image security thread and 2DIris feature, giving the issue a defined place in security-printing history. Those distinctions make it a standalone type rather than a routine date change within an established family.
