The 50 New Makuta sets the standard reform portrait of Mobutu against a reverse devoted to men fishing with nets, shifting the emphasis from state symbolism to everyday labour.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Mobutu Sésé Seko appears in military uniform and cap with a leopard and the Zaire coat of arms, using the shared portrait arrangement of the 1993 reform notes.
Reverse
A standing man and a group of men fishing with nets occupy the reverse, accompanied by Banque du Zaïre initials and the denomination.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-51 belongs to the same unauthorized Ciccone production group as P-49. It carries a Hôtel des Monnaies imprint but was printed in Argentina, giving the note a cataloguing significance that comes from its production history rather than from a special overprint or commemorative purpose.
