The 1988 50 Zaires contrasts official state imagery with a working fishing scene: Mobutu, the leopard and national arms on the front, five net fishermen on the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A capped military portrait of Mobutu Sésé Seko is grouped with a leopard and the Zaire coat of arms beneath French Banque du Zaïre text.
Reverse
Five men work fishing nets from a raised wooden platform, with fish and the Banque du Zaïre initials completing the scene.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-32 begins the 1988–1993 family at 50 Zaires and marks the locally printed Hôtel des Monnaies phase. The same series later reached denominations as high as 5,000,000 Zaires; its place at the bottom of that sequence shows how quickly the nominal scale expanded.
