Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Mobutu Sésé Seko appears in uniform and cap beside a leopard and the Zaire coat of arms, with Banque du Zaïre initials incorporated as a registration device.
Reverse
The reverse is dominated by the large 5000 value, the words CINQ MILLE NOUVEAUX ZAÏRES and Banque du Zaïre initials rather than a pictorial vignette.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-69 identifies the Hôtel des Monnaies printing of the 1995 5,000 Nouveaux Zaïres. Giesecke+Devrient printed the same design as P-68, so printer—not design—is the essential attribution point for this Pick number.
