The blue 10 Kwacha combines Kaunda and the fish eagle with the Bank of Zambia building, giving the denomination a distinctly institutional reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Blue ornamental fields frame a fish eagle at left and the portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda at right. The Zambian coat of arms and denomination are centered beneath the Bank of Zambia title, accompanied by flowers and fine guilloche patterns. Corner numerals and multicolored geometric panels define the edges of the formal, symmetrical front.
Reverse
The Bank of Zambia building dominates the reverse, shown in a broad frontal view that emphasizes its projecting upper floors and structural grid. Denomination numerals appear in the corners and along the lower edge, while sweeping curved lines and patterned border panels frame the architecture. A pale open field at right balances the detailed building vignette.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-26d is the David Abel Ray Phiri signature variety, recorded with prefixes 52/D–109/D. It precedes the Chivuno-signed P-26e, so the governor’s signature and prefix range provide the clearest separation between the two late varieties.
