ThemeLandscapes & Nature

The red 100 Kwacha pairs a perched fish eagle and coconut palms with Victoria Falls, a buffalo and Lusaka’s Freedom Statue.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Red-toned ornamental fields place a fish eagle perched on a branch at right, balanced by the Zambian coat of arms, a dove and coconut palms across the left and center. English inscriptions and the denomination sit over fine guilloche patterns, while the vertical serial number and corner values structure the front.

Reverse

A water buffalo head anchors the left side, with Victoria Falls extending across the central landscape and the Freedom Statue standing at right. The three subjects form a clear sequence of wildlife, natural landmark and national monument. Red-brown denomination panels, fine geometric patterns and a pale outer field frame the engraved scene.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-38g marks the 2008 return to De La Rue after the preceding Oberthur printing and is recorded with prefixes CO/03–CU/03. The retained /03 denominator makes the printer and prefix range especially useful for separating this late variety from adjacent dates.
