The gray 2 Kwacha begins the upgraded 2018–2022 issue, retaining the fish eagle and roan-antelope design while adding tactile security features.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Gray patterned fields place a fish eagle perched on a branch at right, balanced by the Zambian coat of arms, a dove and trees at left. English inscriptions, denomination numerals and a vertical serial number cross the central field. Tactile diagonal lines for visually impaired users appear near both sides, marking the upgraded design.

Reverse

A roan antelope fills the left panel, while two women carrying baskets stand beside an assortment of produce in the center. The Freedom Statue appears at right as the principal national monument. Red-gray geometric patterns, bold denomination panels and fine guilloche lines connect the wildlife, market activity and symbolic figure across the reverse.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 2018 P-56 corresponds to B165a, the first upgraded 2 Kwacha variety with revised glossy-varnish and blind-embossed elements plus tactile marks. Its Oberthur printing and AP/18–AW/18 prefixes distinguish it from the earlier 2015 issue sharing the same Pick number.
