Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Green patterned fields place a fish eagle perched on a branch at right, balanced by the Zambian coat of arms, a dove and a tree at left. English inscriptions and the denomination occupy the central area, with the serial number running vertically. Layered guilloche bands and corner values create a dense but clearly divided composition.
Reverse
A kudu antelope stands at left beside the State House building in Lusaka, which carries the Zambian flag and forms the central architectural vignette. The Freedom Statue rises at right, with a palm tree and pale patterned field behind it. Green denomination panels and ornamental borders connect the wildlife, government building and monument.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-36a is the first signature variety of the 1992 design, signed by Dominic Mulaisho and recorded with prefixes A/A–A/C. The later P-36b changes to Jacob Mwanza, making the governor signature the key distinction within this type.
