The brown 500 Kwacha uses a polymer format with a fish eagle and baobab on the front and a cotton-harvesting scene with an elephant on the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Brown polymer design places a fish eagle perched on a branch at right, balanced by the Zambian coat of arms, a dove and a baobab tree across the left and center. English inscriptions, denomination numerals and a vertical serial number are layered over pale geometric patterns, with transparent security areas incorporated into the composition.
Reverse
An elephant fills the left wildlife panel, while a group of workers picking cotton occupies the central agricultural scene. The Freedom Statue stands at right as the note's national monument. Brown ornamental bands, denomination numerals and transparent polymer windows separate the wildlife, labor and symbolic elements while maintaining a continuous horizontal design.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-43f is the 2008 South African Bank Note Company printing, recorded with prefixes DJ/03–DN/03. The polymer type is also notable for its 2003 launch problems, when early notes were withdrawn after serial numbers could be rubbed off.
