Green and blue tones give Burundi’s 2,000 Francs note the atmosphere of cultivated land, state security, and water held within one compact monetary field.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse places boys picking tea leaves at the right, with the Burundi coat of arms above and French and Kirundi text anchoring the institutional frame. A purple Oberthur Iriseal OVI patch and holographic cattle head patch add a technical layer to the agricultural scene, joining rural labour with modern note protection.
Reverse
The reverse opens toward a lake and dam, using pale green and blue printing to move from cultivated fields to water infrastructure. The composition links landscape, resource control, and national development, while the bilingual text and denomination panels keep the scene within the formal authority of the Bank of the Republic of Burundi.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 2,000 Francs note belongs to Burundi’s 2008 series and is especially useful as a compact study of agriculture, water resources, and upgraded security on a late pre-demonetization issue. Its De La Rue production, cattle and Cornerstones watermark, windowed security thread with demetalized BRB, OVI patch, holographic cattle-head device, and 29 August 2015 demonetization date give it a precise technical and monetary position within Burundi’s modern franc history.
