Soft green tones give Fiji’s 2 Dollars note a civic and human warmth, joining monarchy, education, landscape, and national sport within the final paper chapter of this denomination before its withdrawal.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse presents Queen Elizabeth II beside the Fijian coat of arms, the mohar sovereign locket, the domodomo canoe masthead registration device, and formal Reserve Bank of Fiji lettering. The design places constitutional authority within a distinctly Fijian frame, where royal portraiture is softened by traditional ornament and local symbolic detail.
Reverse
The reverse turns toward everyday national life, showing a diverse group of schoolchildren during games, the grandstand and track at ANZ National Stadium in Suva, and the mountains of Korobasabasaga. After the institutional formality of the obverse, the reverse gives the note a social landscape, linking youth, education, sport, and island geography.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 2 Dollars note belongs to Fiji’s Reserve Bank of Fiji Fifth Issue, printed by De La Rue on Platinum paper for longer life and later demonetized in 2013. The Savenaca Narube signature, CA-DF prefix range, 3-mm windowed security thread demetalized RBF and domodomo, and Fijian head with electrotype 2 and Cornerstones watermark make it a precise representative of Fiji’s late paper 2-dollar circulation series.
