Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A golden eagle soars within the central medallion, its wings set against solar beams and encircled by Kyrgyz inscriptions. The green side panels, corner numerals, and compact ornamental border give the design a stronger denominational presence than its lower-value companion, while the eagle remains the visual anchor of early Kyrgyz state symbolism.

Reverse

The reverse retains the circular structure but replaces the eagle with a tündük motif set inside a sun-like ornamental field. Green and ochre elements carry the composition outward from the center, while the repeated inscriptions and corner numerals preserve the note’s strict symmetry. The tündük links the domestic architecture of the yurt with the civic emblematic language of the new republic.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 10 tyiyn issue belongs to the first paper currency series of independent Kyrgyzstan, a short-lived fractional layer within the early som system. The KT prefix and horizontal Y-shaped watermark place this example in the later printing group, apart from the earlier provincial-prefix notes with eagle-pattern watermark. As a paper 10 tyiyn, it records a monetary stage that soon disappeared from everyday circulation.
