Red and soft rose tones spread to the edges of the note, giving the small modern format a fuller commemorative surface.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse places Togolok Moldo at the left within a red field of national ornament, pale security space, and enlarged denomination elements. A vertical windowed thread and modern geometric device divide the composition, while the portrait remains calm against the denser full-bleed design. The note keeps the poet’s cultural presence but sets it within a more contemporary visual system for the anniversary issue.
Reverse
The reverse returns to Tash-Rabat, shown within a red mountain landscape and framed by broad ornamental panels, denomination figures, and a central security device. The caravanserai is set back into the composition rather than isolated as a monument, allowing the surrounding terrain to become part of the design. The result links literary memory, historic routes, and mountain geography within a compact commemorative layout.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2023 20 som issue marks the 30th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s national currency, making it more than a routine continuation of the modern 20 som type. The Bokontayev signature, Crane Currency production, full-bleed layout, RAPID HD Detect thread, and electrotype watermark place it in a new technical generation after the Oberthur-printed revisions. As the opening low denomination of the fifth issue, it records the shift from French-printed modernization to a Crane Currency security platform led by RAPID HD Detect technology.
