Pale green polymer carries the Central Bank’s silver jubilee through state emblems, marine forms and the older working rhythms of the sea.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse brings together the Solomon Islands coat of arms, stylised fish forms, a Sanford Pacific eagle, decorative shell rings and the round CBSI Silver Jubilee logo. The familiar 2 Dollars design is adapted into a commemorative polymer setting, where institutional anniversary and island imagery share the same restrained green field.
Reverse
The reverse returns to the spearfishing scene, framed by shell-ring motifs, fish and the commemorative legend for the CBSI Silver Jubilee. Its imagery keeps the note tied to coastal skill and traditional livelihood, while the polymer format and transparent security area mark a clear technological step beyond the earlier paper issue.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 2 Dollars note is the Solomon Islands 2001 commemorative issue for the 25th anniversary of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands and is especially important as the country’s first polymer banknote. Printed by Note Printing Australia on Guardian polymer, it carries a simulated windowed security thread with demetalized CBSI, a shadow image watermark with the coat of arms and CBSI, and the Houenipwela and Kiriau signature combination. The AA-BK prefix range and reported 1,500,000-note issue give it a defined place among early Pacific polymer commemoratives.
