Bolivia 10 Bolivianos 2018, P-248(2-1), UNC

Blue tones carry Bolivia’s plurinational narrative across cavern, portraiture, salt-flat landscape, and highland wildlife.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse brings together Caverna de Umajalanta in Torotoro with the portraits of José Santos Vargas “El Tambor Vargas,” Apiaguaiki Tupa, and Eustaquio Méndez “El Moto Méndez.” Set within a modern security field and formal central bank structure, the composition places regional memory, resistance, and national plurality at the centre of the denomination.

Reverse

The reverse opens into the landscape of Isla del Pescado in the Salar de Uyuni, where a giant hummingbird appears beside Puya raimondii and the salt-flat horizon. A hummingbird used as a SPARK feature adds a technical layer to the natural scene, allowing ecological imagery and security design to share the same visual surface.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this 10 Bolivianos note belongs to Bolivia’s Series A plurinational family, printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire and issued as part of the redesigned set bearing the country’s official name, Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia. Its pixelated drum, José Santos Vargas, and electrotype 10 watermark, windowed security thread with demetalized 10 and José Santos Vargas, and Rojas Ulo / Ticona Chique signature combination give this Series A variant a precise technical place before the later 2025 Series B revision printed by Crane Currency in Malta.
