Golden yellow polymer turns the 10 Rufiyaa note into a study of rhythm, palm craft and Maldivian cultural continuity.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse combines a toddy tapper climbing a coconut palm with seated men and women playing boduberu drums in the background. A pale yellow underprint, gold pearlescent floral pattern and denomination registration device give the scene a layered polymer surface. The design links sound, labour and island life, using traditional performance and palm work as parallel expressions of Maldivian culture.
Reverse
The vertical reverse is centred on the oldest drum in the Maldives, displayed as a museum object rather than as part of an active performance scene. Its cylindrical form fills the field with patterned bands and warm brown tones, while the transparent window and tactile raised triangle integrate security and accessibility into the composition. The reverse shifts the theme from living practice to preserved cultural artefact.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 10 Rufiyaa note belongs to the Ran Dhihafaheh polymer family, printed on Safeguard substrate and designed by Abdullah Nashaath as part of the Maldives’ modern visual identity. This variety, with the Ahmed Naseer signature and prefix D, is distinguished by De La Rue printing, gold pearlescent ink, tactile features and the museum drum reverse, where cultural memory becomes part of the banknote’s technical language. It is a precise modern issue for collectors of polymer currency, Indian Ocean notes and music-themed banknotes.
