Purple and pink engraving turns the 25 Rupees into a biodiversity portrait, where rare birds, island plants and modern security features share the same field.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse is centred on the Seychelles Magpie Robin, with coco-de-mer nuts, coco-de-mer foliage, capucin plants, the Central Bank text and a holographic coat of arms integrated into the design. The bird gives the note a conservation-focused character, while the raised coco-de-mer tactile marks and Kinetic StarChrome security thread connect the natural theme with modern banknote technology.
Reverse
The reverse brings together the Seychelles Killifish, an orchid, and the Seychelles Blue Pigeon perched on a branch, with a gold iridescent stripe repeating the 25 and killifish pattern. This side broadens the note’s biodiversity theme from birdlife to freshwater species and native flora, presenting Seychelles as an island environment defined by fragile and distinctive forms of life.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 25 Rupees note belongs to Seychelles’ 2016 independence anniversary series, issued under the theme “Seychelles’ Unique Biodiversity - the backbone of our economy.” It is part of the first group of lower-denomination banknotes in the world to use De La Rue’s Kinetic StarChrome windowed security thread, combining colour-changing and holographic effects. The Caroline Abel signature, BA-BE prefix range, magpie robin watermark, electrotype 25 / Seychelles and cornerstones give the issue strong technical and thematic definition within modern wildlife banknotes.
